During charging, lithium ions move from the cathode (LiFePO4) through the electrolyte and into the anode (carbon), where they are stored. Electrons simultaneously flow through an external circuit to balance the reaction.
During discharge, the process reverses — lithium ions return to the cathode, and electrons generate electric current to power devices.

Each cell delivers a nominal voltage of 2.0V and can discharge down to 1.5V and charge up to 2.4V. Typical systems use 6 cells in series to produce a 12V battery, with other common systems being 24V, 36V, and 48V.
